The two-day gathering showcased innovative research and teaching practices in Southeast Asian language education.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our university\u2019s longstanding commitment to Southeast Asian language instruction and the expertise of our faculty and staff made our university an excellent venue for this workshop,&rdquo; Miriam Stark, director of <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cseashawaii.org\/\">Center for Southeast Asian Studies<\/a> (<abbr>CSEAS<\/abbr>). &ldquo;We were honored to host our <abbr>SEALC<\/abbr> colleagues at the event, and look forward to extending the collaborations that it launched.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Shared expertise<\/h2>\n<p>More than 30 paper and panel presentations explored a wide range of topics, from proficiency-based reading and listening assessments to project-based learning and curriculum innovations. Participants represented leading institutions such as <abbr title=\"\nUniversity of California, Los Angeles\">UCLA<\/abbr>, Harvard, and universities from across Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Since its founding, <abbr>SEALC<\/abbr> has been instrumental in strengthening Southeast Asian language teaching in the U.S. and abroad through professional development workshops, materials design, and assessment innovation. <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s symposium was supported by funds from a Henry Luce Foundation grant awarded to <abbr>CSEAS<\/abbr>. The event was organized by Jayson Parba and Precious Arao (<abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cseashawaii.org\/countries\/philippines\/\">Filipino &#38; Philippine Culture Program<\/a>), in collaboration with Erlin Barnard of the <abbr>SEALC<\/abbr> Steering Committee and <abbr title=\"University of Wisconsin\">UW<\/abbr>\u2013Madison.
