Syrmos. &ldquo;This coordinated request for positions will increase the workforce pipeline by training more doctors, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other health providers essential to providing high quality care for patients with dementia, addictions, or other behavioral health challenges.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Addressing high-priority health needs<\/h2>\n<p>The initiative spans five <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> units&#8212;<abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Cancer Center<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\">School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/\">Thompson School of Social Work and Public Health<\/a>, and the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo <a href=\"https:\/\/pharmacy.uhh.hawaii.edu\/\">Daniel K. 6.35 <abbr>FTE<\/abbr>): Establishing an accredited hematology-oncology fellowship and expanding clinical research capacity.<\/li>\n<li>Neurology and Dementia ($1,162,200; 7.40 <abbr>FTE<\/abbr>): Creating an accredited neurology residency program and expanding the K\u016bpuna Workforce Innovation Hub.<\/li>\n<li>Behavioral Health Integration and Addiction Medicine ($888,000; 4.75 <abbr>FTE<\/abbr>): Expanding the Education and Research Center of Addiction Medicine and enhancing telehealth services.<\/li>\n<li>Beyond direct patient care, the initiative would support statewide continuing education in dementia care and behavioral health&#8211;primary care integration, consistent with <span lang=\"haw\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Department of Health and legislative priorities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Targeted request in a tight budget climate<\/h2>\n<p>The initiative is one of two high-priority items in <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr>\u2019s $18.8 million supplemental operating budget request (<a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.edu\/news\/2026\/01\/22\/uh-manoa-legislative-support-athletics\/\">the second is for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa athletics<\/a>) for fiscal year 2026&#8211;27, introduced amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/12\/12\/uhero-fourth-quarter-forecast-2025\/\">slowing state revenue growth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We purposefully limited the request to major strategic items that are time-sensitive and provide essential benefits to both the state and the university,&rdquo;
