{"id":23476,"date":"2014-03-21T16:06:44","date_gmt":"2014-03-22T02:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=23476"},"modified":"2020-06-01T13:07:14","modified_gmt":"2020-06-01T23:07:14","slug":"match-day-milestone-for-medical-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2014\/03\/21\/match-day-milestone-for-medical-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Match Day milestone for medical students"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3LhmTB9zjrI\" title=\"Youtube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The medical field&#8217;s own unique version of March Madness broke out all over the world today, as medical students around the globe learned, in one simultaneous moment, where they will begin their careers in as <abbr>MD<\/abbr>s-in-training.<\/p>\n<p>The madness included <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/jabsom\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>), where 59 members of the class of 2014 ripped open the sealed envelopes which revealed where they matched into residency training programs.<\/p>\n<p>In the months leading up to today, each student has interviewed at multiple post-graduate training programs, making a list of the top three places they&#8217;d like to go to learn their specialties. Every post-<abbr>MD<\/abbr> training programs in North America has also made their lists of whom they would most like to accept into their programs.
