{"id":24486,"date":"2014-05-05T16:17:41","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T02:17:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=24486"},"modified":"2021-10-29T16:34:22","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T02:34:22","slug":"student-fashions-from-honolulu-cc-hit-the-runway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2014\/05\/05\/student-fashions-from-honolulu-cc-hit-the-runway\/","title":{"rendered":"Student fashions from Honolulu <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>  hit the runway"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WRjVoMsu06A\" title=\"Youtube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>An annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/\">Honolulu Community College<\/a> tradition, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/?q=node\/414\">Fashion Technology Program<\/a> senior fashion show is a sight to behold.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For the last three years that I have been in the program, this is what I have been working for,&rdquo; said <strong>Jacqueline Ann Miszuk<\/strong>, a Honolulu Community College senior designer who showed her collection in the 2014 event. &ldquo;It&#8217;s the highlight of our educational career&#8212;to display our talent and our skills that we&#8217;ve learned here.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> The school&#8217;s first fashion show was in the 1920s when the highly regarded program was founded.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The first ones were done on the tables of the classrooms and now we have elevated ourselves to having a venue, a nice venue,&rdquo; said <strong>Joy Ann Nagaue<\/strong>, head of the program.<\/p>\n<p>The event is now held at Honolulu Community College&#8217;s Marine Education and Training Center on Sand Island, but by the look and feel of the show, it could easily be New York City or Milan.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If you don&#8217;t have this, they are not as creative,&rdquo; said Nagaue.<\/p>\n<p>The senior designers always take full advantage of the opportunity to let their creative juices flow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/honcc-fashion.jpg\" alt=\"models display student-designed fashion\" width=\"400\" height=\"259\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24515\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/honcc-fashion.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/honcc-fashion-260x168.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am showcasing costumes for the stage and for films, with an avant-garde twist,&rdquo; said <strong>Randy Leono<\/strong>, one of the senior designer.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My collection tonight is a very sophisticated yet edgy look for women and it&#8217;s inspired by geometrical shapes and architecture, structure,&rdquo; said Miszuk.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, each senior designer displays his or her own unique style. The one common denominator is their professional education.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It helped me a lot. Like really, really a lot, with the help of great and amazing teachers from the Honolulu Community College, it&#8217;s priceless,&rdquo; said Leono. &ldquo;It is amazing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The instructors are excellent,&rdquo; said Miszuk. &ldquo;The program is the best.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The program&#8217;s mission is to serve the community as a learning-centered, open door program that provides technical training to meet the demands of the fashion industry and the needs of the students. It offers an associate degree and certificates of achievement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We emphasize design, so we&#8217;re pattern makers, seamstresses, alterations.
