Learn about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openaccessweek.org\/\">Open Access<\/a> (<abbr>OA<\/abbr>) and explore changes in scholarly publishing and how they can affect the academic journey from student to early career researcher and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the week, the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M&#257;noa community is invited to learn about open educational resources at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outreach.hawaii.edu\/\">Outreach College<\/a>, to navigate the impact of copyright on teaching and research, and how to contribute to Wikipedia. Go the <a href=\"http:\/\/guides.library.manoa.hawaii.edu\/c.php?g=134607&#038;p=882061\">event website for the full schedule of events.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Open Access Week is an international event providing the global academic and research community the opportunity to learn about and share experiences with <abbr>OA<\/abbr>, with the aim of helping to make <abbr>OA<\/abbr> a new norm in scholarship and research. Open Access to information&#8212;the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and reuse those results as needed&#8212;has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted. This year is the eighth year for Open Access Week and the fifth year of participation for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M&#257;noa.<\/p>\n<h2>Rights to research and publishing practices with Nick Shockey<\/h2>\n<p>Open Access Week will feature guest speaker, Nick Shockey, who is director of programs and engagement at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sparc.arl.org\/\"><abbr>SPARC<\/abbr><\/a> (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition). He is also director of the right to research coalition, which represents local, national and international student organizations that advocate for researchers, universities and governments to adopt more open scholarly publishing practices.
