The College of Business was renamed in his honor in 2006 after he donated $25 million. He later quietly donated another $6 million. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28571\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28571\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/shidler-vision-gift.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"251\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28571\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/shidler-vision-gift.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/shidler-vision-gift-260x163.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28571\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pictured from left, Shidler College of Business Dean Vance Roley, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Foundation President and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> Donna Vuchinich, investor and philanthropist Jay Shidler and <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> President David Lassner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Shidler decided to increase his visionary gift by $69 million because of what the college was able to achieve with his initial donations. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We were able to establish a full-time <abbr title=\"Master of Business Administration\">MBA<\/abbr> program as a result of that gift, we established a distance learning <a href=\"http:\/\/shidler.hawaii.edu\/emba\">Executive <abbr>MBA<\/abbr> program<\/a> serving the neighbor islands and we also established a <a href=\"http:\/\/shidler.hawaii.edu\/freshman-dap\">Freshmen Direct Admit Program<\/a> targeting high achieving freshmen, not only from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> but all around the globe,&rdquo; said Roley.  <\/p>\n<p>The Shidler College of Business also aggressively pursued and attracted top tier faculty, awarded millions of dollars in scholarships, completed much needed renovations to the classrooms, courtyard and facilities and funded the expansion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/pace.shidler.hawaii.edu\/\">Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a> that serves the entire <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin:0 0 15px 15px;\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"306.36\" height=\"171.82\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qFLP9JNRq9M\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>Jay H. Shidler speech<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;This gift transformed the College of Business from what it was, to a leading institution in our state, in the nation and in the world,&rdquo; said <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/op\/\"><strong>David Lassner<\/strong><\/a>. &ldquo;And it&#8217;s really shown the rest of the university what&#8217;s possible.&rdquo;  <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Because the transformations that I have seen here at the Shidler College of Business have exceeded all of my expectations, I really am inspired by this remarkable event that I want to guarantee that it continues in the future,&rdquo; said Shidler. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to gifts of cash and marketable securities, Shidler is also giving the college ownership interests and lease fees from various properties in the central business districts of major cities in the continental United States. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is a long term investment in the future of the college,&rdquo; said Lassner. &ldquo;It will provide stable, secure and predictable source of funding over many, many years. And that&#8217;s almost unheard of.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This does put us in a different league among top universities who have been gifted, philanthropic gifts of this magnitude,&rdquo; said <strong>Donna Vuchinich<\/strong>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Foundation<\/a> president and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr>. &ldquo;So it&#8217;s just a point we can pivot from and go to new heights.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>The Shidler College of Business is aiming to be on par with the best in the country like the University of Pennsylvania&#8217;s Wharton School. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My dream is in 30 years or so is that the top students around the world will think of Warton in one hand and Shidler on the other hand,&rdquo; said Roley. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&#8217;s so exciting,&rdquo; said <strong>Ashley Kawagishi<\/strong>, a senior at the Shidler College of Business. &ldquo;We are already afforded amazing opportunities here at the college and I think this is really only going to expand what&#8217;s offered to us.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>As for Shidler, he hopes that others are also inspired to donate to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This college and this university really deserve an investment, it&#8217;s really worth it,&rdquo; said Shidler. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jay H.
