There is at least one campus in each county and community outreach education centers across the state. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Even on <span aria-label=\"Niihau\">Ni&#699;ihau<\/span>, they have access to <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College,&rdquo; said <strong>Sharon Narimatsu<\/strong>, a former Leeward Community College provost. &ldquo;How fabulous is that?&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>For decades now, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> community colleges have educated tens of thousands of people in trade programs like culinary and auto mechanics while also offering associate degrees and preparing students for four-year colleges and beyond. Students like <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> County Mayor <strong>Billy Kenoi<\/strong>, who went to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community College. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My life is what it is because of the community college system,&rdquo; said Kenoi. &ldquo;You know, I wasn&#8217;t prepared for a university degree when I got out of high school. I had some challenges but the community college was there for me. And without that door being open, I never would have been able to accomplish and achieve my high education dreams.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin:0 0 15px 15px;\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"306.36\" height=\"171.82\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4AOnLUdFnLE\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<strong>Related <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> News video<\/strong>: 50 years of accessible,<br \/>affordable higher education, March 18, 2014\n<\/div>\n<p>Since its inception, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Community Colleges has made higher education available to the masses because it&#8217;s affordable and anyone with a high school diploma or <abbr>GED<\/abbr> is accepted. To commemorate the anniversary, the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Community Colleges held a 50th anniversary celebration and honored the 50 Finest&#8212;administrators and faculty&#8212;who built the system. The honorees were quick to point out that they represent everyone who contributed. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/uhcc50\/finest.php\">Meet the 50 Finest<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;It took a whole community of faculty and staff to bring the kind of training and education and commitment to make sure that <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s next generation got the skills that they needed to succeed,&rdquo; said Rising Star honoree <strong>Grace Funai<\/strong>, a <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community College counselor. &ldquo;Just thinking about how we can continue to innovate and to lead the state of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> in providing that education to our students.&rdquo; said <strong>John Morton<\/strong>, the vice president for the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Community Colleges. &ldquo;And so, we have much, much more to do for the people of the state of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and that&#8217;s our commitment.&rdquo;
