Makena Coffman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Makena Coffman<\/strong>, associate professor of Urban and Regional Planning<\/a> at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a>, presents Energy and Greenhouse Gas Policy in Hawaiʻi<\/span><\/em>, on Tuesday, April 21, 11:30 a.m. in Hamilton Library Room 301 as part of the 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa Faculty Lecture Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hawaiʻi<\/span> has adopted aggressive goals for the adoption of renewable energy. Electric utilities must provide a minimum of 40 percent of electricity sales through renewable sources by the year 2030. There are voluntary commitments to achieve 65 percent by this time, and legislative proposals to achieve 100 percent by 2040.<\/p>\n

Coffman will discuss the federal and state policies motivating renewable energy adoption in Hawaiʻi<\/span> as well as alternative scenarios to achieve higher levels of renewable energy, including economic and greenhouse gas impacts.<\/p>\n

Coffman teaches graduate courses in environmental planning related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in the Asia\/Pacific region, energy and environmental policy and planning methods.<\/p>\n

She specializes in economic-environment modeling. Coffman holds a BA<\/abbr> in international relations from Stanford University and a PhD<\/abbr> in economics from 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa. She is a research fellow with the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> Economic Research Organization.<\/p>\n
