The American Library Association Hawaiʻi<\/span> Student Chapter<\/a> announced that Eleanor Kleiber, a Pacific specialist in the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa library, received the Sarah K. Vann Professional Service Award. Kleiber was nominated for the Vann Award in recognition of her service to librarianship in Hawaiʻi<\/span>, especially from the perspective of Pacific and indigenous languages access.<\/p>\n

The Vann Award is presented to people who advance librarianship in Hawaiʻi<\/span> within the areas of intellectual freedom and international issues. <\/p>\n

Kleiber has demonstrated her commitment to the profession through her work at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community and at ¶«¾«Ó°Òµ<\/abbr> Mānoa. She works to ensure that a wider audience and population can access the Hamilton Library Pacific Collection.<\/p>\n

She also shares her knowledge of the Pacific with students and has co-taught library and information science courses<\/a> specializing in Pacific and Hawaiian resources. In 2013, Kleiber guided students in an effort to donate relevant books to Yap Public Library for a disaster relief effort.<\/p>\n

In keeping with Vann’s vision of international librarianship, Kleiber has promoted a global perspective on serving indigenous communities from an international perspective and is working hard to make works in Pacific and indigenous languages more discoverable. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
