Both <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Maui College students received $5,000 scholarships funded through an endowment that honors the legacy of <strong>Clyde Sakamoto<\/strong>, who retired as chancellor after serving the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System for 41 years.<\/p>\n<h2>Jerome Texeria<\/h2>\n<p>Texeria was born and raised in Maui, and graduated from Maui High School in 1997. He is currently pursuing his bachelor of applied science degree in <a href=\"http:\/\/maui.hawaii.edu\/abit\/\">applied business and information technology<\/a> and is expecting to graduate in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&#8217;m so appreciative&#8212;this scholarship will really help me reach my academic goals,&rdquo; said Texeria, who also worked with Sakamoto as a student assistant. &ldquo;I feel honored to be one of the first to receive this award. I love <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Maui College, and the support I&#8217;ve received here has been huge.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Malia Ah Nee<\/h2>\n<p>Ah Nee is also pursuing her degree in applied business and information technology. &ldquo;Receiving the award meant a lot to me, especially because it was the Chancellor&#8217;s Legacy Scholarship,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At first I was a bit in shock, amazed, and grateful all at the same time. After the award ceremony I took a moment to truly reflect on my hard work and how it shaped me to be the person I am today. I will continue to be diligent and strive toward success in all aspects of my life.
