students who hold U.S. patents were honored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span><\/a> and presenting sponsor American Savings Bank at a dinner on September 24, 2015 at the Waialae Country Club. <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> launched the first <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> chapter of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academyofinventors.org\/\">National Academy of Inventors<\/a>, an organization of more than 200 U.S. and international universities and research institutions and more than 3,000 individual members who have obtained patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.<\/p>\n<p>Among the inventors who were recognized at the dinner were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Norm Abramson<\/strong>, who developed the ALOHA protocol, a foundation of modern networking taught in engineering classes around the world<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ryuzo Yanagimachi<\/strong>, a pioneer in mouse cloning and the development of assisted fertilization techniques<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thomas Ernst<\/strong>, inventor of motion-correction technologies for <abbr>MRI<\/abbr> scanners (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2013\/03\/14\/revolutionary-mri-technology-developed-by-uh\/\">learn more<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>John Madey<\/strong>, inventor of the free-electron laser<\/li>\n<li><strong>Virginia Hinshaw<\/strong>, who developed a method of producing a vaccine for Avian flu in humans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38900\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/system-patent-holders.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"185\" commercialized technologies they developed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Heidi Kuehnle<\/strong>, co-founder and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kuehnleagro.com\/\">Kuehnle AgroSystems<\/a> and a former <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> professor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paul Lucey<\/strong>, co-founder and chief scientist of <a href=\"http:\/\/spectrum-photonics.com\/\">Spectrum Photonics<\/a> and a current <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> professor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patrick Sullivan<\/strong>, founder and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanit.com\/\">Oceanit<\/a>, who received a <abbr>PhD<\/abbr> from <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event was organized by the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/research\/otted\/\">Office of Technology Transfer and Economic
