One black night, near an old abandoned plantation town by the sea, two cousins lost in the darkness unknowingly cross a supernatural threshold. Directed by Taurie Kinoshita, ʻŌʻōkala<\/span> 100<\/em>, will come “alive” on the Palikū Theatre<\/a> stage at Windward Community College<\/a> on October 23 through October 30, just in time for the Halloween season.<\/p>\n

In Hawaiian mythology, leina (the ‘leaping place’) were believed to be portals to another world. After the cousins cross over a supernatural threshold, they encounter ghosts from different backgrounds and time periods over the past 100 years of Hawaiʻi<\/span>’s history gather nearby reliving moments of pain and joy in their life.<\/p>\n

Playwright Susan Stanton wrote this collection of eerie and haunting local ghost stories specifically to be performed by the Theatre 260 Dramatic Production students of Windward Community College.<\/p>\n

Stanton is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter in New York. Her work has appeared at Clubbed Thumb, East West Players, Playwrights Horizons, Kennedy Center, The Flea, Southern Rep, Joe’s Pub, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and PerryMansfield among others.<\/p>\n

ʻŌʻōkala<\/span> 100<\/em> is directed by award-winning, 25-years, more than 100-shows theatre veteran Taurie Kinoshita, who has also staged critically acclaimed work in London and New York City, and features Windward CC<\/abbr>’s Theatre 260 students\u2014many acting for the first time onstage. A post-show discussion will be held on Saturday, October 24.<\/p>\n
