Project Imua (Hawaiian for \u2018to move forward\u2019) is a joint faculty-student enterprise for designing, fabricating and testing payloads.<\/p>\n<p>The actual Project Imua Payload that flew into space this past summer was also displayed during the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>On August 12, 2015 University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> community college students watched their scientific\/engineering payload spin into space when a two-stage Terrier-Improved Malemute sounding rocket was launched from NASA\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/centers\/wallops\/home\">Wallops Flight Facility<\/a> in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Payloads developed by students from seven higher education programs were aboard the rocket. The <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\">东精影业 Community College<\/a> team was the only community college whose payload was selected for this launch.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua\u02bbi<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> designed and built the payload\u2019s instrumentation.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/\">Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> designed the payload\u2019s electronic circuitry for power and telemetry.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi\u02bbolani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> designed the associated print circuit board.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> integrated all the components together and performed static tests on the payload.<\/li>\n<li>Both Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> and <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua\u02bbi<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> designed and constructed the payload\u2019s mechanical housing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Project Imua is funded by a two-year $500,000 grant awarded under the NASA Space Grant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.federalgrants.com\/National-Space-Grant-College-And-Fellowship-Program-Competitive-Opportunity-For-Partnerships-With-Community-Colleges-And-Technical-Schools-45307.html\">Competitive Opportunity for Partnerships with Community Colleges and Technical Schools<\/a>.
