The European Geosciences Union recognized Malte Stuecker, postdoctoral researcher in the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Department of Atmospheric Sciences, with the 2016 Outstanding Young Scientist Award in the EGU Climate Division.

EGU is Europe’s premier geosciences union—dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the geosciences and the planetary and space sciences for the benefit of humanity. The recipients of the 2016 awards, from both European and non-European countries, are honored for their important contributions to the Earth, planetary and space sciences.

Earlier this year, Stuecker completed his doctorate degree at the 东精影业 Mānoa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST). His research focuses on understanding the fundamental dynamics of climate variability on various timescales and how this knowledge might help to improve predictions, especially in the tropics and the monsoon regions. More information about his research can be found on his website.

“I am deeply grateful for the outstanding education I received here at SOEST, which is reflected by this award,” said Stuecker.

The honorees will receive their prizes at the EGU 2016 General Assembly, which will take place in Vienna, Austria on April 17–22, 2016.
