On Monday, November 16, the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> welcomed another 24 participants from the China Guangdong Department of Human Resource and Social Security to attend the World Bank sponsored executive IT<\/abbr> Program on “Best Practices for Implementing Integrated Information Systems.” The first program was offered in 2014.<\/p>\n

The program aims to train IT<\/abbr> administrators to build state-of-the-art social protection systems in China to help migrant workers from inner provinces more easily access their social benefits such as health, disability and unemployment benefits from their home provinces.<\/p>\n

Five executives, headed by Que Guangchang, Bureau Chief, Social Insurance Fund Administration, attended the welcome lunch and the orientation to kick off the program. Que and his executive team also met with their counterparts at the Hawaiʻi<\/span> State Department of Human Services headed by Rachael Wong.<\/p>\n

China selected the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> as the most appropriate place to seek this training and cooperation. The program is jointly offered by 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa’s Shidler College of Business Executive Education Center<\/a> and the Information and Computer Sciences Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa Chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman<\/strong> commented on Hawaiʻi<\/span>’s special relationship with Guangdong Province. In October this year, Governor David Ige participated in the milestone celebration of the 30th anniversary of our sister-relations with Guangdong Province and expressed Hawaiʻi<\/span>’s commitment to further strengthen our relationships through educational, cultural and economic exchanges in the years ahead.<\/p>\n

Other executive leaders including John Butler<\/strong>, former associate dean for the Shidler College of Business, and David Chin, chair of the Department of Information and Computer Science encouraged the participants to maximize their learning experience in Hawaiʻi<\/span> to contribute towards building a new integrated social insurance benefits processing system for Guangdong Province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
