  {"id":42610,"date":"2016-02-05T10:55:31","date_gmt":"2016-02-05T20:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=42610"},"modified":"2018-12-14T08:56:24","modified_gmt":"2018-12-14T18:56:24","slug":"national-student-affairs-award-named-after-uh-leader-doris-ching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/02\/05\/national-student-affairs-award-named-after-uh-leader-doris-ching\/","title":{"rendered":"National student affairs award named after <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> leader Doris Ching"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/west-oahu-ching-d.jpg\" alt=\"Doris Ching\" width=\"300\" height=\"375\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-40421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/west-oahu-ching-d.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/west-oahu-ching-d-208x260.jpg 208w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naspa.org\/\">National Association of Student Personnel Administrators<\/a> (<abbr>NASPA<\/abbr>) Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, named one of its annual awards after <a href=\"http:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>-West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> Interim Chancellor <strong>Doris Ching<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naspa.org\/about\/awards\/naspa-annual-awards\/mid-level-student-affairs-professional-award\">Doris Michiko Ching Award for Excellence as a Student Affairs Professional<\/a> award &ldquo;honors a student affairs professional at the mid-level, senior-level or associate vice president-level whose outstanding commitment to the profession includes development of programs that address the needs of students, creation of a campus environment that promotes student learning and development and support of and active engagement in <abbr>NASPA<\/abbr>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Doris Ching was one of few individuals to hold both the role of <abbr>NASPA<\/abbr> board chair and the <abbr>NASPA<\/abbr> Foundation board chair. When looking to rename the mid-level award, one that acknowledges the future leaders of our profession, no better person embodies this than Dr. Ching, who focused much of her tenure in the field mentoring and creating opportunities for all professionals,&rdquo; said <abbr>NASPA<\/abbr> President Kevin Kruger. &ldquo;Dr. Ching was also the first woman of color to serve as board chair of <abbr>NASPA<\/abbr> and has had a lifetime commitment to equity and inclusion within higher education.
