The 74,000 square-foot, six-story, state-of-the-art facility hosts all of the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> enterprise information and communication technology systems serving all 10 <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> campuses throughout the state of Hawai&#699;i<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The architects at <a href=\"http:\/\/ferrarochoi.com\/\">Ferraro Choi and Associates<\/a>, the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/oci\/main.html\">Office of Capital Improvements<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/its\/\">Information Technology Services<\/a> collaborated on the building design with a firm commitment to environmental stewardship from the inception. The <abbr>ITC<\/abbr> includes an 8,000 square-foot Tier II Data Center that required specialized design strategies to optimize energy consumption and efficiency in support of the <abbr>LEED<\/abbr> Gold certification. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The university&#8217;s new executive policy on sustainability commits <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> to strive for a minimum of <abbr>LEED<\/abbr> Gold certification for all new buildings,&rdquo; said <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> President <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.edu\/offices\/op\/\"><strong>David Lassner<\/strong><\/a> &ldquo;I congratulate and thank the <abbr>ITC<\/abbr> team for setting a successful example with this especially complex project. The contributions to reducing energy consumption will continue to grow as we migrate servers from less energy efficient locations in closets and under desks to one of the most energy-efficient data centers in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our commitment to achieve measureable and sustainable outcomes has been critical in the <abbr>LEED<\/abbr> certification process,&rdquo; said <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.edu\/admin\/executives\/cio.html\"><strong>Garret Yoshimi<\/strong><\/a>. &ldquo;We will continue our long-term efforts to manage our impact on the environment and to support a highly functional workspace for our staff.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_43077\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43077\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/system-information-technology-center.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43077\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/system-information-technology-center.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/system-information-technology-center-260x146.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43077\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s Information Technology Center<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">The <abbr>ITC<\/abbr> design achieves a 22 percent reduction in energy consumption as compared to the baseline building specifications provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashrae.org\/\">American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers<\/a>. A broad range of features and strategies positively impact the environment and support a highly functional and staff-friendly workspace. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Daytime heat accumulation reduced using a combination of shading systems to control direct sunlight and reflective paved surfaces and roofing materials.<\/li>\n<li>Light trespass and spill minimized from the building interior and exterior to maintain appropriate illumination for safety and security.<\/li>\n<li>Active chilled beams provide thermal comfort while using 100 percent outside air to reduce the health impact of re-circulated contaminants common with traditional <abbr title=\"Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning\">HVAC<\/abbr> systems.<\/li>\n<li>Domestic water usage reduced by 30 percent with low-flow water fixtures combined with drought-tolerant native landscaping.<\/li>\n<li>Construction waste diversion of over 90 percent achieved by implementing a program to separate, recycle, store and reuse the construction and demolition waste.<\/li>\n<li>Occupancy sensors save electricity by automatically turning off lights when no one is in a work area. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>More recognition<\/h2>\n<p>The Information Technology Center also received the 2014 <abbr title=\"General Contractors Association\">GCA<\/abbr> Build <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Grand Award, <abbr title=\"American manufacturer of video switching and control devices\">AMX<\/abbr> 2014 People&#8217;s Choice Innovation Award, 2015 <abbr title=\"Commercial Real Estate Development Association\">NAIOP<\/abbr> Kukulu Hale Award and the 2015 American Council of Engineering Companies of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Engineering Excellence Honor Award for its innovative design and construction. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2014\/07\/07\/uh-it-center-wins-nationally-for-audio-visual-technology\/\">&ldquo;<abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Information Technology\">IT<\/abbr> Center wins nationally for audio visual technology,&rdquo; July 7, 2014<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2014\/04\/24\/uh-information-technology-center-earns-top-construction-award\/\">&ldquo;<abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Information Technology Center earns top construction award,&rdquo; April 24, 2014 <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For further information about sustainable architecture, go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/ferrarochoi.com\/\">Ferraro Choi and Associates website<\/a>.
