Ige<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span><\/a> President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/op\/\"><strong>David Lassner<\/strong><\/a> signed an agreement that leverages the 2-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/technology\/itcenter\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Information Technology Center<\/a> to reduce risks associated with some of the state\u2019s <abbr>IT<\/abbr> systems while saving taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement between the Office of Enterprise Technology Services, led by state Chief Information Officer Todd Nacapuy and the university\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/its\/\">Information Technology Services<\/a>, led by UH Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/admin\/executives\/cio.html\"><strong>Garret T. Yoshimi<\/strong><\/a>, some <abbr>IT<\/abbr> systems currently housed at that state\u2019s primary data center in the downtown Kalanimoku Building will immediately begin migrating to the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> <abbr>IT<\/abbr> Center to the extent possible to provide resilient backup. The agreement outlines a rate structure under which <abbr title=\"Educational Testing Service\">ETS<\/abbr> will remunerate the university for its costs each year, including a \u201ctrue up\u201d based on actual expenses from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI applaud our executive branch and University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> teams for working together on this mutually beneficial and cost-effective solution to meet our state\u2019s immediate data center needs,\u201d said Ige.<\/p>\n<h2>Supporting the state<\/h2>\n<p>Lassner noted that \u201cThe state has had <abbr>IT<\/abbr> facilities challenges for years, so when we were requesting state funding for the new <abbr>IT<\/abbr> Center we made clear our willingness to support other state programs as well. We are pleased to now welcome these state systems into vacant space in our <abbr title=\"Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design\">LEED<\/abbr> Gold data center facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy leveraging the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> data center, we are able to address some of our most critical systems while reducing duplicative spending, including costs associated with designing, building, maintaining, powering and staffing an entirely new data center,\u201d said the state\u2019s Chief Information Officer Todd Nacapuy. \u201cThis agreement represents an annual cost avoidance that\u2019s easily in the millions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kalanimoku data center has long been known as an aging facility with many components requiring refurbishment and upgrades. Furthermore, the building is less than ideal due to its location close to shore, the lack of power redundancy and distribution and insufficient cooling and antiquated fire suppression.<\/p>\n<p>Physical security, access and reliability were key factors in identifying the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> <abbr>IT<\/abbr> Center as a viable site. The <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> facility already maintains a secure environment with protocols in place for authorized personnel that are provided access and the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> <abbr>IT<\/abbr> Center\u2019s data center is designed to operate through an extended power outage without any problems.
