Salaveria, Department of Business, Economic Development &amp; Tourism<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"clear:both;\">Several University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> students led by <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System Student Sustainability Coordinator Kristen Jamieson with support from Nicole Chatterson of <a href=\"http:\/\/kupuhawaii.org\/rise\/\">KUPU RISE<\/a> were recognized at the 2016 <a href=\"http:\/\/energy.hawaii.gov\/green-business-program\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Green Business Program<\/a> Awards for their work producing the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.hawaii.edu\/sustainabilitysummit\/\">4th Annual <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Sustainability in Higher Education Summit<\/a> as a zero waste event. This is the third consecutive year the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Sustainability in Higher Education Summit has earned this distinction and it was one of only five in the category of Green Events honored in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Students oversaw the implementation of sustainable and green practices at the 3-day summit, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A zero waste protocol involving no paper handouts, no plastic bottles or cups and food waste composting through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/sustainag\/soft\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <abbr title=\"Student Organic Farm Training\">SOFT<\/abbr> Program<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Reusable mugs, water bottles, utensils and compostable plates<\/li>\n<li>Healthy vegetarian cuisine for all meals featuring locally foraged or sourced ingredients by local Chef Jenn Hee of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.juicybrewhawaii.com\/\">Juicy Brew Cafe<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Carpooling and room-sharing encouraged for all <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> participants<\/li>\n<li>Hawaiian cultural learning through opening protocol<\/li>\n<li>Service learning project at <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hshk\/ka-papa-loi-o-kanewai\/\">Ka Papa <span aria-label=\"Loi\">Lo&#699;i<\/span> O K&#257;newai Cultural Garden<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;We are very proud of our students for walking the talk and setting an example when it comes to integrating sustainability into our events,&rdquo; said <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System Office of Sustainability Coordinator Matthew Lynch. &ldquo;Our hope is that other event organizers across the 10 campuses will follow our students&rsquo; lead.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>About the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Green Business Program Awards<\/h2>\n<p>The 2016 <a href=\"http:\/\/energy.hawaii.gov\/green-business-program\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Green Business Program<\/a> Awards honored 16 business and 5 events for their innovative work to conserve energy and implement sustainable practices that will protect the environment and help <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> meet its clean energy goals. The awards were presented by <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.hawaii.gov\/\">Governor David Ig<\/a>e and representatives from the <a href=\"http:\/\/energy.hawaii.gov\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Energy Office<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/dbedt.hawaii.gov\/\">Department of Business Economic Development &amp; Tourism<\/a> (<abbr>DBEDT<\/abbr>), the <a href=\"http:\/\/health.hawaii.gov\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Department of Health<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cochawaii.org\/\">Chamber of Commerce of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>About the 4th Annual <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Sustainability in Higher Education Summit<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/web.hawaii.edu\/sustainabilitysummit\/\">4th Annual <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Sustainability in Higher Education Summit<\/a> was held March 10-12, 2016 and organized by the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> System Office of Sustainability. The event brought together more than 150 faculty, staff, students and administrators from across the 10 campus <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System to work on strategic energy management, sustainability curriculum development, formalizing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/StudentSustainabilityCoalitionHI\">Statewide Student Sustainability Coalition<\/a> and campus sustainability planning. The event was sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiienergy.com\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Energy<\/a>, <a
