It is awarded to those who have &ldquo;distinguished achievements in their field of endeavor.&rdquo; It is one of the highest honors the Nation of Japan can bestow for an individual. He has received numerous honors and awards for his academic work. <\/p>\n<p>Ogawa has also authored many books including the best seller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhpress.hawaii.edu\/p-719-9780824803988.aspx\"><em>Jan Ken Po: The World of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s Japanese Americans<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhpress.hawaii.edu\/p-5074-9780824807306.aspx\"><em>Kodomo No Tame Ni\u2014For The Sake of The Children<\/em><\/a>. In addition to his efforts as an educator and author, Ogawa is also the chairman of the Nippon Golden Network, a television channel that features movies and programs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> about Japan, its people, language and culture. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/02\/17\/professor-dennis-ogawa-honored-as-a-living-treasure-of-hawaii\/\">Professor Dennis Ogawa honored as a Living Treasure of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/a>, February 17, 2016<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ogawa received his <abbr title=\"Doctor of Philosophy\">PhD from <\/abbr><abbr title=\"University of California Los Angeles\">UCLA<\/abbr> in 1969 where he was one of the founders of the university&#8217;s Asian American Studies Center.
