Be A Scientist Night at IHS<\/abbr> 2015.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A team of University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> faculty and students will transform The Institute of Human Services<\/a> (IHS) into a math, science and engineering lab to captivate the community’s young minds for Be a Scientist Night on Friday,\u00a0December 2, 6–8 p.m.<\/p>\n

东精影业ees will be engaged with activities rooted in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The STEM<\/abbr> activities, designed for K–12 students, will include robotics, magic with mathematics, insect observation\u00a0and biogeochemical science.<\/p>\n

“This is the fifth anniversary of this annual event, and we are all looking forward to sharing\u00a0our passion for STEM<\/abbr> with our community,”\u00a0said Monique Chyba<\/a><\/strong>, a math\u00a0professor.<\/p>\n

The evening is a culmination of a semester of weekly visits by the 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa\u00a0math department<\/a> to IHS<\/abbr>, as well as\u00a0a celebration of the active collaboration between the two institutions. The\u00a0cooperation offers underprivileged students a different form of education than they would receive otherwise.<\/p>\n

“Education is one of the keys to a better life for underprivileged children,”\u00a0said\u00a0Chyba. “It is a great honor to impact our youth and give them hope in a brighter future. This annual event brings together people from different backgrounds toward a common goal—rediscovering our own curiosity by asking questions about nature and the world we live in.”<\/p>\n

This event is part of a larger effort by the 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa Department of Mathematics. Since fall 2010, the department has\u00a0worked in association with\u00a0IHS<\/abbr> to provide homeless children with a weekly educational program. Robotics, rocketry and mathematics are the leading themes of the sessions taught by undergraduate and graduate students from various departments at 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa.<\/p>\n

Donations welcome<\/h2>\n
