Richardson School of Law<\/a> will host outstanding legal scholars during the 2017 January-Term, January 9&#8211;13. Classes on Friday, January 13, will be free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the line-up is professor\u00a0Barry Scheck, co-founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.innocenceproject.org\/\">Innocence Project<\/a> that has been responsible for exonerating more than 300 innocent prisoners nationwide since its launch 25 years ago. Scheck is a professor of law at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardozo.yu.edu\/\">Cardozo School of Law<\/a> in New York City. Ira Rosen, a producer of <abbr title=\"Columbia Broadcasting System\">CBS<\/abbr> News&#8217; <em>60 Minutes<\/em>, will join him as they\u00a0share insights about investigative journalism and its legal implications. Scheck and Rosen present on January 13, 1:30&#8211;3:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<h2>Additional speakers<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Friday, January 13, 9&#8211;11:15 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kristen Stilt, the Frank Boas Visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/hls.harvard.edu\/\">Harvard Law<\/a> Professor and expert on Islamic Law, will explore the range of laws that affect animals, including companion animals, farm animals and animals used in experimentation.<\/li>\n<li>Robin West, the Frederick Haas professor of law and philosophy at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/\">Georgetown University Law Center<\/a>, will examine the treatment of political and legal outsiders in law and literature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Friday, January 13, 5:30&#8211;7:45 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carol Sanger, the Barbara Aronstein Black professor of law at <a href=\"http:\/\/web.law.columbia.edu\/\">Columbia Law School<\/a>, will teach\u00a0abortion regulation, including the idea that abortion law cannot be understood without grasping various non-legal sources of support and opposition.<\/li>\n<li>Jeremy Waldron, a university professor at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/\">New York University<\/a>, will explore the concept of &ldquo;human dignity&rdquo; in modern constitutional and human rights law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parking is available for $5 before 4 p.m. and $6 after 4 p.m. in the parking structure.<\/p>\n<h2>Hawaii Innocence Project Fundraiser<\/h2>\n<p>Tickets are still available for the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Innocence Project Fundraiser at Caf&#233; Julia, located at the downtown <abbr title=\"Young Women's Christian Association\">YWCA<\/abbr> at 1040 Richards Street, from 5:30 t0 8:30 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Bar Foundations.
