The performance is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Barry Bearak&#8217;s <em>New York Times Magazine<\/em> cover story, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/11\/27\/magazine\/the-day-the-sea-came.html?_r=0\">&ldquo;The Day The Sea Came.&rdquo;<\/a> Bearak, composer and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhwo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> assistant professor of music <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonmagnussen.com\/\">Jon Magnussen<\/a><\/strong> and Dallas-based HAVEN Trio collaborated on this unique musical composition&#8212;melding words and music in innovatively enhanced storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>TWINGE is being performed for the first time in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> on January 19 at the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> Library, followed by a concert in <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiipublicradio.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Public Radio&#8217;s<\/a> intimate <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiipublicradio.org\/post\/atherton-winter-season-2016-17\">Atherton Studio<\/a> on January 21, which will feature live narration by Bearak. The 15-song composition will be performed by the HAVEN Trio, which consists of soprano Lindsay\u00a0Kesselman, clarinetist Kimberly Cole Luevano and pianist Midori Koga. After both performances, Magnussen, Bearak, and the members of the HAVEN Trio will hold a talkback session with the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Magnussen was inspired to compose TWINGE after reading Bearak&#8217;s message of humanity in the dramatic cover story about the survivors of the 2004 tsunami, beginning 24 hours before the tsunami through most of 2005. A donation of $25 is suggested as a benefit to the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> Music Fund.<\/li>\n<li>The musical artists and journalist will also visit <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> classes in journalism, disaster preparedness and music, to increase awareness of cultural understanding, disaster preparedness and the power of music in storytelling.
