{"id":54742,"date":"2017-01-05T14:40:09","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T00:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=54742"},"modified":"2020-01-15T16:12:54","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T02:12:54","slug":"stomp-in-the-ilab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/01\/05\/stomp-in-the-ilab\/","title":{"rendered":"<abbr title=\"Student Teacher Outreach Mentorship Program\">STOMP<\/abbr> in the iLab"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nnftEQaY4VI?showinfo=0\" title=\"Youtube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>For the first time in the 10-year history of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/diversity\/gpa\/core_activities\/stomp.html\">Student Teacher Outreach Mentorship Program<\/a> (STOMP), <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> school kids came together on the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa<\/a> campus for a robotics winter camp. <\/p>\n<p>The students, in grades 2&#8211;10, met at the new <a href=\"https:\/\/ilab.hawaii.edu\/\">Innovation Lab<\/a>, or iLab, for hands-on learning in robotics, programming and mathematics. M&#257;noa undergraduate students from math, engineering and computer science are leading the four days of fun, educational activities. <\/p>\n<p>Created by Professor of Mathematics <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.hawaii.edu\/~mchyba\/\"><strong>Monique Chyba<\/strong><\/a>, the <abbr>STOMP<\/abbr> program typically involves college students in local classrooms. With the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/03\/04\/i-lab-opens-at-uh-manoa\/\">opening of the iLab in March 2016<\/a>, a modern, collaborative space was created to give <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> students and faculty the opportunity to innovate and commercialize their ideas.
