It is one of the longest running general-purpose scientific conferences in the world and is recognized for its ability to bring together hundreds of top <abbr\">IS<\/abbr> academics and professionals from over 60 countries in an interactive working environment.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout its 50-year history, <abbr>HICSS<\/abbr> has promoted technological innovations and has advanced the research and development in the <abbr>IS<\/abbr> and technology fields by publishing approximately 19,000 refereed papers. <abbr>HICSS<\/abbr> has also featured renowned researchers and practitioners from the technology industry who served as keynote speakers.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s keynote address was presented by Todd Richmond, director of advanced prototypes at the <abbr title=\"University of Southern California\">USC<\/abbr> Institute for Creative Technologies; Peter Mars, executive director of <abbr title=\"General Electric\">GE<\/abbr> Digital; Paul Saffo, futurist at Stanford University; and John Seely Brown, independent co-chairman for the Deloitte Center for the Edge.<\/p>\n<p>There were 635 papers presented over the three main days of the conference.
