Windward Community College’s Palikū Theatre<\/a> presents The Monkey King: Wreaking Havoc in the Dragon’s Palace<\/em> adapted from Journey to the West<\/em> by Instructor Nicholas Logue<\/a><\/strong>, March 10–19.<\/p>\n

The story is taken from the pages of the epic novel Journey to the West<\/em>. This action-comedy-adventure follows the immortal Monkey King, Sun WuKong, on his intrepid, if often insane, quests. This play takes us from Sun WuKong’s brith and early life into his first wild adventure, as he strives to find a weapon worthy of his incredible martial skills.<\/p>\n

Venturing beneath the sea, Sun Wukong busts into the Coral Palace of Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea, after learning this monarch maintains an impressive armory. Many hijinks and martial arts combat ensue, and the Dragon King’s many subjects including, crabs, turtles and other sea creatures are swept up into the wild melee.<\/p>\n

The Monkey King: Wreaking Havoc in the Dragon’s Palace<\/em> is presented as a heavily adapted Jingju or “Beijing Theatre” piece incorporating live musical accompaniment, acrobatics and other exciting conventions of Chinese theatre practices.<\/p>\n
