{"id":57111,"date":"2017-03-06T11:15:14","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T21:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=57111"},"modified":"2019-02-28T15:52:05","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T01:52:05","slug":"candidates-for-board-of-regents-presented","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/03\/06\/candidates-for-board-of-regents-presented\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidates for Board of Regents presented"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/rcac\/\">Candidate Advisory Council<\/a> (CAC) for the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\">Board of Regents<\/a> has presented a list of candidates to Govenor David Ige to fill one City and County of Honolulu seat, one At-Large seat, and one <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> County seat for 5-year appointments, beginning July 1, 2017, subject to confirmation by the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Senate.<\/p>\n<h2>The finalists<\/h2>\n<p><strong>City and County of Honolulu<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Simeon R. Acoba<\/li>\n<li>Anthony J. H. Ching<\/li>\n<li>Luanna H. Meyer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>At-Large<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kim Coco Iwamoto<\/li>\n<li>Benjamin A. Kudo<\/li>\n<li>Luanna H. Meyer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> County<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dileep G. Bal<\/li>\n<li>Norma Doctor Sparks<\/li>\n<li>Steven A. Hunt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read the finalist biographies at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/rcac\">Candidate Advisory Council website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>CAC<\/abbr> began accepting applications to fill these vacancies in early fall by recruiting individuals and contacting and encouraging government, business and community leaders to nominate candidates.\u00a0The council also placed print advertisements and issued news releases encouraging applications.<\/p>\n<p>All applications were thoroughly and comprehensively reviewed and screened by all <abbr>CAC<\/abbr> members. The <abbr>CAC<\/abbr> is statutorily responsible for conducting recruitment efforts, accepting and screening applications, interviewing candidates and submitting to the governor the names of nominees willing to serve as regents of the <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> System, which is a voluntary non-compensated public appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Candidate lists are compiled after a comprehensive review and selection process, which is solely and exclusively merit-based and is conducted according to procedures set forth in state statutes and the council&#8217;s administrative rules.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Candidate Advisory Council members would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the individuals who took the time to apply to serve as a University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Regent,&rdquo; said Chair <strong>Brigitte Yoshino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Regents is the governing body of the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> and consists of 15 members.\u00a0Representation includes seven from the City and County of Honolulu; two from \u00a0<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> County; two from Maui County; one from <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> County; two At Large; and one <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> student.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the <abbr title=\"Candidate Advisory Council\">CAC<\/abbr> serve voluntarily and are not paid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Candidate Advisory Council presented the finalists for the 5-year appointments to Gov.
