The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> will hold the 5th Annual Hawaiʻi<\/span> Sustainability in Higher Education Summit<\/a> at 东精影业<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span><\/a>, March 16–18. This year’s summit will explore sustainability through indigenous perspectives and the global dialogue on sustainability. <\/p>\n

The summit will also focus on the sustainability courses that are taught across all 东精影业<\/abbr> campuses<\/a>—how can UH better coordinate and support student interest in exploring sustainability topics and create curricular coherence on and across campuses.<\/p>\n

Event highlights<\/h2>\n

March 16<\/strong>
\nA panel session will explore the Meeting of Wisdoms<\/a> between ancestral knowledge and modern sciences and features Rosie Alegado<\/strong>, Pauline Chinn<\/strong>, Aurora Vivani-Kagawa<\/strong>, Manulani Aluli Meyer<\/strong>, Tim Botkin<\/strong>, Albie Miles<\/strong> and Noa Lincoln<\/strong>. This session will be broadcast live beginning at 9 a.m.<\/a><\/p>\n

March 17<\/strong>
\nAn ePoster Hoʻike<\/span> session<\/a> beginning at 2 p.m. in the campus multi-purpose room is free and open to anyone interested in sustainability in higher education.<\/p>\n

March 18<\/strong>
\nThe annual Student Sustainability Summit<\/a>, as well as the annual spring SENCER<\/abbr> Summit (Science Education for New Civic Engagement and Responsibility)<\/a> to support faculty members’ professional development.<\/p>\n

The event is catered by MAʻO Farm-to-Fork and features produce sourced almost entirely from West Oʻahu<\/span>. Student Sustainability Coordinator Nicole Chatterson<\/strong> and 东精影业<\/abbr> Mānoa Sustainability Fellow Jessica Sevilla<\/strong> are working on protocols to create a zero-waste event, which include providing re-usable eating utensils for participants to keep throughout the event, as well as composting food waste produced from all meals.<\/p>\n

Summit sponsors include Hawaiian Electric Companies, Johnson Controls and Hawaiʻi<\/span> Energy. The event is also made possible with the support of the Office of the Vice President for Administration, Hawaiʻi<\/span> Green Growth and TRANE Building Advantage.<\/p>\n
