Countless <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> students, faculty, staff and alumni served the voyage in myriad ways, as volunteers, navigators, captains and scientific researchers.  <\/p>\n<p>At the homecoming, Polynesian Voyaging Society President <strong>Nainoa Thompson<\/strong> reiterated his assertion that <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> is \u201chands down\u201d the most important institution in the region.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is the most important navigator we have in the Pacific,&rdquo; Thompson said in an earlier interview. &ldquo;It\u2019s the most important navigator and it\u2019s the most important <span aria-label=\"waa\">wa&#699;a<\/span>. It\u2019s the most important canoe that we have. They are our partners and residents at our Marine Education Training Center at Sand Island, part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/\">Honolulu Community College<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Related <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> News: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/06\/16\/the-partnership-that-gave-hokulea-a-home\/\">The partnership that gave <span aria-label=\"Hokulea\">H\u014dk\u016ble&#699;a<\/span> a home<\/a><\/em>, June 16, 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Honolulu <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> instructor <strong><span aria-label=\"Kaiulani\">Ka&#699;iulani<\/span> Murphy<\/strong> served as lead navigator during <span aria-label=\"Hokulea\">H\u014dk\u016ble&#699;a<\/span>\u2019s sail home from Tahiti. <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imiloahawaii.org\/\">&#699;Imiloa Astronomy Center<\/a> Navigator in Residence <strong>Chad K\u0101lepa Baybayan<\/strong> has also captained numerous legs of the voyage. <\/p>\n<p>Prior to undertaking the worldwide voyage, Thompson consulted with <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> scientists from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean and Earth Sciences and Technology<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifa.hawaii.edu\/\">Institute for Astronomy<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/oceanography\/\">oceanography department<\/a> and more. &ldquo;There were enormous amounts of research, &#8230;we knew who to call,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors at the <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> made sure the crew was healthy enough to voyage and helped to keep them that way. During the voyage, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> held systemwide gatherings at College Hill and <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a> to share information and commitments to M\u0101lama Honua or \u201ccare for our Earth.\u201d  One key commitment came from the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Education<\/a>: teach the values of M\u0101lama Honua to the future teachers studying in the college.<\/p>\n<p>The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> is one of more than a hundred educational partners who have signed the Promise to the Children, which says, in part, &ldquo;&#8230;we promise to create, sustain and navigate a movement dedicated to future generations, one that is imbued with the goodness of <span aria-label=\"Hokulea\">H\u014dk\u016ble&#699;a<\/span> and the wisdom born of her legacy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Thompson said, &ldquo;Twenty years from now, sustainability, I promise you, will be figured out. We will be on alternative energy 20 years from now. We will have figured out issues of food sovereignty to get off the 95 percent that we import.
