Shidler College of Business<\/a> alumnus Manuel “Manny” August\u00a0Jr.<\/strong>\u00a0has established a $35,000 endowed scholarship for full-time undergraduate or graduate students pursuing an accounting degree at college\u2019s School of Accountancy<\/a>. The scholarship will also receive $5,000 from Wells Fargo Bank<\/a> as a matching contribution for fall 2017.<\/p>\n

“I believe a strong financial education for our children is key to the future success of Hawaiʻi<\/span>,” says August.\u00a0“I am excited to establish this endowment for students of the Shidler College of Business to help them achieve the education needed to succeed.”<\/p>\n

Scholarship recipients must be graduates of\u00a0public high schools in Hawaiʻi<\/span>, and demonstrate community service and leadership qualities.<\/p>\n

About Manuel August Jr.<\/h2>\n

August, who graduated from Castle High\u00a0in windward Oʻahu<\/span>, is an area sales manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. He is responsible for the sales team in Hawaiʻi<\/span> and sales offices\u00a0in Corona, California. Before entering the mortgage industry, he was a senior accountant in the Audit and Consulting Services Division with KHM<\/abbr> LLP<\/abbr>, previously known as Arthur Andersen LLP<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

He is active in the community,\u00a0volunteering\u00a0with\u00a0charitable organizations that include\u00a0Habitat for Humanity, Family Programs Hawaiʻi<\/span>, American Heart Association, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi<\/span> and the\u00a0Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi<\/span>. He serves on the School of Accountancy Advisory Board, Hawaiʻi<\/span> Academy of Science Board and the Hoʻok\u0101koʻo<\/span> Corporation Board.<\/p>\n

August received his BBA<\/abbr> in accounting from the\u00a0Shidler College of Business in 1998, and was previously a certified public accountant, licensed in Hawaiʻi<\/span>.<\/p>\n
