The 100th anniversary of the death of Queen Liliʻuokalani<\/span> will be on November 11, 2017. The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa Hawaiʻinui\u0101kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge<\/a> is observing the centennial with an exhibit of her papers, songs and photographs at Hamilton Library in September and October, as well as the concert, Hoʻoh\u0101liʻaliʻa<\/span>: Remembering Her Majesty, at Kennedy Theatre on Saturday, October 7.<\/p>\n

“A century after her passing, this remarkable leader remains an exemplary symbol of ability, grace, ethics and courage,” said Interim Dean of Hawaiʻinui\u0101kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge Jon Osorio<\/strong><\/a>. “We have to take the time and remember her example and leadership that still inspires us today. Our hope is that this exhibit and concert will celebrate her life and legacy and introduce our beloved queen to those who do not know her.”<\/p>\n

Four themes—m\u0101kaukau (ability), noʻeau<\/span> (grace and talent), k\u016b i ka pono (ethics) and wiwoʻole <\/span> (courage) provide the structure for the centennial events.<\/p>\n

The Hamilton Library Exhibit<\/h2>\n

The exhibit, which runs September 8 through October 15, is curated by Kamakak\u016bokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies<\/a> Librarian Keahiahi Long<\/strong><\/a> and Associate Professor April Drexel<\/strong><\/a>. It includes 32 different pieces from five different repositories—the Hawaiʻi<\/span> State Archives, ʻIolani<\/span> Palace, Hawaiʻi<\/span> Pacific Collection of 东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Hamilton Library, Mission Houses Library, Ka Waihona A Ke Aloha—and includes:<\/p>\n
