The group shared stories and laughs with the defensive lineman, who in his short time in M\u0101noa, made an immediate impact on the Rainbow Warriors. The team sported beenies with Naotala\u2019s jersey number 75 and the slogan &ldquo;Back and Better,&rdquo; a phrase that he uttered to Rolovich days after his accident.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66098\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66098\" style=\"width: 676px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-athletics-naotala-colorado-visit.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"676\" height=\"372\" class=\"size-full wp-image-66098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-athletics-naotala-colorado-visit.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-athletics-naotala-colorado-visit-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66098\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa football team players, coaches and support staff visit with teammate Kalepo Naotala<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Naotala, a freshman from Virginia who gray-shirted in 2016, suffered a serious spinal cord injury on July 1, 2017, while diving with friends near Waik\u012bk\u012b. He was rescued from the water, and received treatment at The Queen\u2019s Medical Center before being transferred to Craig Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Kalepo was with us for 6 to 8 months and he impacted our program greatly,&rdquo; head coach <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiiathletics.com\/coaches.aspx?rc=1952&#038;path=football\"><strong>Nick Rolovich<\/strong><\/a> said. &ldquo;As you can see from our guys, for a lot of them it was the first chance they got to see him since the hospital so it&#8217;s meaningful, it&#8217;s important. I think it&#8217;s great for Kalepo knowing he\u2019s still a part of our team.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It felt good to be surrounded by them again,&rdquo; Naotala said. &ldquo;Ever since I met most of them in January, they\u2019ve been my family so it was good to be with them again. Family is a huge part of our team, whether it be beach barbecues or just hanging out in the locker room playing cards.
