Burns School of Medicine\">JABSOM<\/abbr><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nearly 1,000 men, including University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> students, faculty, staff, administrators, regents and coaches, participated in the 23rd Annual Men\u2019s March Against Violence on Thursday, October 12. The mission of the Men\u2019s March Against Violence is to end domestic violence throughout <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and to address the complex and costly issue as it affects families, communities and the workplace. One in five employed adults is a victim of domestic violence.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> News story<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/10\/11\/uh-marches-to-end-domestic-violence\/\"><abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> marches to end domestic violence<\/a>, October 11, 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>President Lassner honored<\/h2>\n<div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wn03sujqFi8\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/david-lassner\/\"><strong>David Lassner<\/strong><\/a> was also honored with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year award. <\/p>\n<p>The award read: &ldquo;Men\u02bbs March Against Violence Distinguished Citizen Award 2017, in recognition of [Lassner\u2019s] unwavering leadership in the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> system to support gender responsive training, programming and awareness in the interests of safety, freedom and equality for student success. Spirited engagement and effective action on campuses statewide are favorably impacting students and campus communities. The generosity, dependability and enthusiasm for improving campus climate, faculty and student experiences has a far reaching impact and serves the best interests of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Lassner said, &ldquo;Throughout the journey we have already become a safer institution, a better institution and, at this point, even if the federal government doesn\u02bbt force us to do anything, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to be safe for everyone who crosses our doors.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>See more images from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/uhmed\/albums\/72157687928546103\"><abbr title=\"John A.
