The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aplu.org\/\">Association of Public and Land-grant Universities<\/a> (APLU) presented <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa with the 2017 Project Degree Completion Award on November 12 at a Washington, D.C. meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The award honors institutions using innovative strategies or programs to increase retention and graduation. An initiative launched in 2007 by <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa led to an 84 percent increase in the four-year graduation rate from 2010 to 2016. During that  period, the graduation rate for first-time, full-time students went from 17.5 percent to a record high 32 percent.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Public universities are working hard to substantially increase the number of students who don\u2019t just enroll in college, but actually make it across the finish line and earn all the benefits a college education provides,&rdquo; said <abbr>APLU<\/abbr> President Peter McPherson. &ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M\u0101noa has made significant strides in student retention and graduation over the last decade. The Office of Undergraduate Education was established in 2006 and a team of administrators and faculty from multiple units began by identifying and addressing barriers to student success. The team developed the Student Engagement, Retention and Graduation plan, more than 30 initiatives that focused on improving student engagement and the quality of the student experience.<\/p>\n<p>These initiatives included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>developing an online degree audit system to engage students on their academic track<\/li>\n<li>establishing an academic policy of mandatory advising for all students<\/li>\n<li>creating four-year academic major plans to provide students with a clear path towards degrees<\/li>\n<li>establishing advising offices in the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Community Colleges to better assist students transferring to M\u0101noa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><abbr>APLU<\/abbr> cited the Student Engagement, Retention and Graduation plan as the main reason for awarding <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa the Project Degree Completion Award.
