Chandrachud<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Honorable Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud of the Supreme Court of India will deliver a public address on June 6, noon, at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/\">William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> Moot Court Room. His presentation, &ldquo;Global Constitutionalism in the Age of Transnational Judicial Conversations in Human Rights,&rdquo; addresses global social justice issues.<\/p>\n<p>Chandrachud is a guest of the law school and the Supreme Court of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. They have collaborated closely over the past four years to develop an active India-<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> partnership&#8212;and an exchange of judges, faculty and students&#8212;with the Supreme Court of India, India National Green Tribunal and Jindal Global Law School in New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>Chandrachud was appointed a justice on May 13, 2016, and will soon serve, by seniority, as chief justice.<\/p>\n<p>He is known as an outspoken advocate for human rights and social justice. He obtained his <abbr title=\"bachelor of laws\">LLB<\/abbr> from Delhi University in 1982 and an <abbr title=\"master of laws\">LLM<\/abbr> from Harvard University on the Inlaks Scholarship in 1983. He also earned his doctor of juridical sciences from Harvard in 1986. His thesis was on affirmative action law, considered in a comparative framework.<\/p>\n<p>Introducing Chandrachud will be Raj Kumar, vice chancellor and dean of the Jindal Global University Law School, an internationally recognized leader in legal education and an educational exchange partner with the Richardson School of Law.<\/p>\n<p>The event is open to the public at no charge.
