Burns School of Medicine\">JABSOM<\/abbr> scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TfTeT3QGpS8?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>In an effort to tackle the doctor shortage in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, philanthropists Barry and Virginia Weinman, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiipacifichealth.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Pacific Health<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queens.org\/default.aspx\">The Queen&#8217;s Health Systems<\/a> are donating $3.66 million to fund full-tuition, 4-year scholarships for 23 incoming students at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M\u0101noa <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>). The 23 scholarship recipients are <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> residents and make up about a third of the incoming Class of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These 23 future doctors will be free from worry over the expense of a medical education while they study. They will be able to graduate nearly debt free and then choose their medical specialties based on their passion to serve, not financial constraints,&rdquo; said <abbr title=\"John A. I am very committed to this school and I am very committed to my community.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Pacific Health President and <abbr title=\"cheif operating officer\">CEO<\/abbr> Ray Vara  committed to five full-tuition, 4-year scholarships for incoming, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> resident, <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> medical students.
