Bogaars endowed professorship at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/\">National University of Singapore<\/a> (<abbr>NUS<\/abbr>) for 2018&#8211;2019.<\/p>\n<p>Aung-Thwin, a specialist on &ldquo;medieval&rdquo; Myanmar in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cseashawaii.org\/\">Center for Southeast Asian Studies<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/spas\/\">School of Pacific and Asian Studies<\/a>, will teach the history of the country formerly known as Burma to <abbr>NUS<\/abbr> undergraduate and graduate students. He will also present a public lecture on the importance of Eurasians in the study and development of Southeast Asian studies.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am honored by this recognition, because it is named after one of the most distinguished Eurasian Singaporeans of the Pioneer Generation who laid the groundwork for the independent republic,&rdquo; said Aung-Thwin. &ldquo;Bogaars was also a key architect of the Singapore civil service, and one of the most eminent graduates of the <abbr>NUS<\/abbr> Department of History.&rdquo;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Aung-Thwin, a professor in the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, has been awarded the George E.
