The Honolulu City Council recognized Lyon Arboretum for its 100th anniversary.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa Lyon Arboretum<\/a> was recognized for its 100th anniversary<\/a> with an honorary certificate from the Honolulu City Council<\/a> during a ceremony at Honolulu Hale in September.<\/p>\n

The certificate, which Lyon Arboretum Director Rakan Zahawi<\/strong><\/a> accepted from Councilmember Ann Kobayashi, read, in part:<\/p>\n

“The Honolulu City Council takes great pleasure in honoring and recognizing Lyon Arboretum in celebration of 100 years of dedicated botanical research and educational service benefitting the residents of the City and County of Honolulu, and the State of Hawaiʻi<\/span>.”<\/p>\n

“It was a great honor to receive the honorary certificate from the City Council on behalf of Lyon Arboretum in recognition of our centennial,” said Zahawi. “We hope to do more great things that the city of Honolulu can be proud of.”<\/p>\n

In August, the arboretum held its Centennial Hoʻolauleʻa<\/span><\/a> that attracted more than 2,000 people who enjoyed celebration festivities and learned more about M\u0101noa\u2019s hidden gem.<\/p>\n

As part of its centennial year, Lyon Arboretum will hold its first symposium<\/a>, Aʻohe<\/span> Pau Ka ʻIke<\/span> I Ka H\u0101lau Hoʻokahi<\/span>: Celebrating 100 Years of Research, September 13–14, an Arbor Day tree giveaway on November 3 and its popular annual plant sale<\/a> on November 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
