This scholarship supports full-time and part-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in vocational\/technical education studies at any of the <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\">seven community colleges<\/a> within the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> System.<\/p>\n<p>This new gift builds on the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation\u2019s positive impact at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr>. Last year, the foundation made donations to <a href=\"http:\/\/kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a> programs totaling more than $250,000. This included supporting the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation Engineering Scholarship for pre-engineering students transferring from <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M&#257;noa, the <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Innovation Center and the <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Cognition Learning Center Fund.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are most grateful to the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation for their ongoing partnership and generous support. Through their strategic philanthropy, they are helping build stronger communities by ensuring our residents can afford the education and training they need to succeed in the dynamic workforce of today,&rdquo; University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Vice President for Community Colleges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/john-morton\/\"><strong>John Morton<\/strong><\/a> said. &ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s economic health depends on having a strong pool of well-trained employees ready to work.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation is to ensure that students in K&#8211;12 grades have the skills and competencies they need to be effective leaders.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> in Hawaiian means &lsquo;leadership,&rsquo; and our mission at the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation is to build and promote leadership and education initiatives for na pua o <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, or the youth of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; Philip Kahue, executive director of the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation said. &ldquo;Our goal is to develop a new generation of leaders, especially among those who live in rural areas, who have the aptitude, attitude and vision to lead our communities and our nation in the future.
