The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa\u2019s Kennedy Theatre and Department of Theatre and Dance<\/a> present Winter Footholds: Glimpse<\/em><\/a> at Earle Ernst Lab Theatre, the second dance concert in the student showcase series.<\/p>\n

The production brings together dance students, choreographers, technicians and designers in an intriguing presentation of contemporary dance. Featured works were created by PhD<\/abbr> candidates in theater (performance studies), master of fine arts in dance candidates, master of arts in dance candidates and undergraduate students.<\/p>\n

“We have some very talented undergraduate and graduate students,” said Jhalak Kara Miller<\/strong>, associate professor of dance. “I want them and their dances to be brilliantly successful and to inspire our community.”<\/p>\n

Student choreography and performances<\/h2>\n

Scott Felluss<\/strong> and Maria Teresa Houar<\/strong> present pre-show digital movement installations outside. Felluss’ “Rhythmic Animal” creates a visual environment, and Houar\u2019s “Digital Traces” is an experimental movement research film.<\/p>\n

Alexus Johnson<\/strong> choreographed “Perseverance,” a movement about finding peace and believing that people can push through their struggles.<\/p>\n

Sophia Carter<\/strong> presents “Lagniappe Sugar,” an upbeat jazz and swing dance.<\/p>\n

Angela Sebastian<\/strong> choreographed “ARCH,” focusing on the presence of women. She describes her inspiration for the piece as “a dance focused on recursively appearing within myself.”<\/p>\n

Iana Weingard<\/strong> presents “Sōma,” a dance for camera film. Weingard describes the choreography as “an exploration of transposing dancing bodies across different spaces through video.”<\/p>\n

Undergraduate students Charessa Fryc<\/strong>, Christianne Moss<\/strong> and Dulcianea Sabin<\/strong>, as well as alumna Bianca Moise<\/strong>, showcase their talent in choreographed and performed works.<\/p>\n
