Her post graduation plans include obtaining her masters in public health with a focus on nutrition at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa and motivating communities to adopt healthier habits and lifestyles. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100366\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100366\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/manoa-urop-gemady-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"girl holding shovel\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-100366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/manoa-urop-gemady-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/manoa-urop-gemady-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/manoa-urop-gemady-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/manoa-urop-gemady.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100366\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><abbr>SURE<\/abbr> participant Gemady Langfelder<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;It\u2019s been amazing,&rdquo; said Langfelder. &ldquo;I\u2019ve met a lot of really cool people, with similar interests and learned a lot about graduate admission in one of the events that was held by <abbr>SURE<\/abbr>.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Through <abbr>SURE<\/abbr>, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> faculty and staff lead professional development modules to help undergraduate students hone their professional and academic skills while engaging in faculty-mentored research and creative works. Students can confer with their cohort about the challenges, solutions and rewards they experience when working on research or creative projects. <abbr>SURE<\/abbr> helps students build a sense of community and place while they are doing sometimes isolated work during the summer. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;What this program does is it helps students build the other skills they may not necessarily get out of their specific research project, so we\u2019re talking about social skills, their interaction with each other. They\u2019re also developing a passion for engaging with the community,&rdquo; said <strong>Jessie Chen<\/strong>, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <abbr>UROP<\/abbr> program coordinator. <\/p>\n<p><abbr>SURE<\/abbr> culminates with a <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/undergrad\/urop\/summer-undergraduate-research-experience-sure\/sure-symposium-3\/\">two-day symposium<\/a>, August 1&#8211;2, for undergraduate students from all disciplines to showcase their research and creative work projects.<\/p>\n<p>The goal is to ultimately prepare students to be engaged community members and leaders in their professions in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and beyond post-graduation. <\/p>\n<p>These <abbr>UROP<\/abbr> experiences are funded in part through the generous support of the <a href=\"http:\/\/castlefoundation.org\/\">Harold K.L.
