Panelist Bios

Kimberly Guidry is the Solicitor General for the State of Hawai‘i, and a 19-year veteran of the Department of the Attorney General. The Solicitor General has oversight authority over most state and federal appeals in the Attorney General’s office, including briefs filed on behalf of the State of Hawai‘i in the United States Supreme Court. Guidry is a graduate of Kalani High School, and attended the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, where she earned a B.A. in history with highest honors and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. She earned her law degree from the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law, where she served as an editor of the Asian Pacific Law and Policy Journal. She is a member of the Hawai‘i Supreme Court’s Standing Committee on the Hawai‘i Rules of Appellate Procedure and is presently serving a second three-year term as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners of the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.

Khara Jabola-Carolus is the Executive Director of the Hawai?i State Commission on the Status of Women, a state government agency located in Honolulu that is legislatively mandated to advance women’s rights. Khara is the only millennial to direct a statewide government agency in Hawai?i. She is also a board member of the National Association of Commissions on Women. Previously, she led the Hawai?i Coalition for Immigrant Rights where she passed landmark legislation that extended driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants. Khara earned her Juris Doctor from the 东精影业 with a specialization in Native Hawaiian law, and B.A. from New York University and Franklin University of Switzerland. Khara was recently named one of 20 for the next 20: Hawai?i’s People to Watch in 2021. She has testified before the United States Congress and been featured by UN Women, UNDP, and UNICEF and the United State of Women. She has also performed fellowships at the United States Senate, Hawai?i Supreme Court, and Committee to Protect Journalists. Simultaneous to waged work, she is a mother and full-time caregiver of two toddlers. Her family is from Laguna, Philippines.

Erika Lacro became vice president for community colleges in 2019 for the 东精影业’s seven community colleges. Her key focus is to champion support for the student success agenda. At the university since 2002, she was chancellor at Honolulu Community College and served as vice chancellor of academic affairs. Previously, she was assistant dean, director of academic advising and director of internship and career development at UH 惭ā苍辞补 School of Travel Industry Management. Before joining the university, she has held management roles at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikīkī Beach Resort. Lacro serves as commissioner and has chaired several comprehensive accreditation visits for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association and was a commissioner for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. She is active nationally in Achieving the Dream Initiative, Complete College America, and Global Community Colleges Leadership Network. In addition, nationally, she serves as Alliance Executive Committee member for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education and as board of director for the Global Community Colleges Leadership Network. Internationally, she is a board of director for the Community Colleges for International Development. Locally, Lacro is active on the Oahu Workforce Development Board and Aloha United Way Board of Directors. Lacro earned a master’s and bachelor’s degree in travel industry management, and a PhD in communication and information sciences from the University of Hawai’i at 惭ā苍辞补.

Trixy ?Iwalani Koide or Kumu ?Iwalani was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai?i and is a proud graduate of the Kamehameha Schools and the 东精影业 at 惭ā苍辞补. She earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Hawaiian Language and Speech also a Master’s degree in Educational Technology. She has been a college professor in Hawaiian Language for over 20 years at Kapi?olani Community College. She has held many leadership positions at Kapi?olani CC and the 东精影业, most notable as the Chair and Commissioner for UH Commission on the Status of Women. Other positions include, Coordinator for Language faculty, Coordinator for Hawaiian Langauage faculty, Co-Chair for Associate in Arts degree for Hawaiian Studies, and numerous positions in Distance Education projects. She embraced technology early on as the first Hawaiian Langauge Kumu to offer distance education courses on live cable television through ??lelo TV, UHTV, and now online asynchronously. She has a strong passion for teaching and learning and student success. She is actively engaged in her community serving on the Board for the Hawai?i Council for the Humanities, her church, and volunteering for her son’s school events. Raising her son and being active with him is her most cherished activity. She is surrounded by family and friends that she enjoys spending her free time with.
