Overview
The ¶«¾«Ó°Òµ at Hilo's Imiloa Astronomy Center is a 40,000 square foot facility for astronomical research. The center has been open to the public since 2006 and hosts educational exhibits about astrology and Native Hawaiʻian culture. The building site also features a planetarium and cafe for visitors as well as a native garden.
The project became LEED certified in 2007 and features stormwater management elements and water-efficient landscaping. The building incorporated recycled content sourced local construction materials and utilizes low-emitting materials. The design also monitors the building's interior for ideal human thermal comfort.
